So, after many exhaustive hours of searching fruitlessly for someone that did a 3vze auto to manual trannie swap that was a 4x4 (i did enjoy justinking's thread, btw), i decided its time to ask questions...

So, i have a guy that will sell me EVERYTHING (quite a list of things, really) for 750. I think thats a fair price.

2wd is straight forward, but what about 4wd? I have ADD, but its disabled, now with aisin hubs. The transfer case.. would i be better off getting an ADD manual, or trying to figure out how to mount a t-case? Is the cross member different? Exhaust routing? Speedo issues? Flywheel and output shaft and clutch stuff? will the master and slave clutch cylinders fit no problems? (looks tight)

If i had a friend whos a mechanic, and me, who knows only what i have read, could we do it by ourselves? that is, assuming we had all the basic tools? Any special tools? Would it be better to pull the whole motor, or do it from underneath? Driveshaft issues (both front and rear)?


I know, i seek a lot of info, but i dont wanna get in over my head when i go to do this, i want to know everything!

if you guys and girls could answer all these q's, i would be sooo thankful!

firts off manual hubs didnt disable your add unless you cut the wire. second many people have done the swap and some say a full saturday is enough.

 

add is fully disabled. Checked it out. the previous owner fixed it up good...

the sleeve is welded. the vacuum solenoid no longer has power to it. and finally, the lines were yanked from said solenoid as well.

Fully disabled.

My concerns lie with exhaust and trannie mounting and transfer case. the rest seems to be simple enough,

You do need the new 5 speed tranny mount, the auto is way diffrent. Funny that my auto crossmember was a bolt in, but other are diffrent as I have heard. I still have the 5 speed cross member so if you need it pm me or reply below, check your auto cross-member if it is striaght or make a U shape type crossmember. I got the 5 speed from a 1989 toyota pickup 4x4 which have the mechanical vehicle speed sensor, if your VSS is an electrical type then you need to go to TAP and they can give you a VSS that has a plug to your harness, don't get the one that the plug is facing side way, get the one that you can plug it striaght through. I'll take a picture on it tomorrow to see what I am saying...
