Wow, 2951 pounds

So I'm helping a guy I work with/buddy do some reno's on his house. Last night we poured some concrete, so we had to go pick up one of those small mixers and some ready mix concrete bags. His new 2007 GMC Sierra was loaded with some demo stuff from when he hacked up his basement plumbing and re did it in ABS (we're both plumbers), so I volunteered to take my truck.

So we figured out our cubic footage after a few measurements and hit up Home Depot. I guess I must have been optimistic in thinking about what a bag can handle as far as cubic footage as it turns out one 66 pound bag is advertised to only do 0.52 cubic feet and we needed the equivilent of about 18 cubic feet so we bought 36 x 66 pound bags. PLUS he rented one of those small orange mixers that weigh about 150 pounds or so with the stand. So we had me (205 pounds) buddy (220 pounds), mixer (150 pounds) plus 2376 pounds concrete for a total of 2951 pounds in my truck, and we were still 1/2" off of the bump stops with it fully loaded. We loaded it well too so that probably helped. The engine was sure bogged down but got the job done. Man it sure helps to have a fully boxed frame and good solid aftermarket heavy duty aftermarket OME leaf springs plus the Bilstein shocks which work wonders at controllilng loads - but I probably wouldn't want to venture much past this in all honesty. But it'll be a one time personal record I guess.

an 80 pound bag of quikrete will cover 2 sq feet at 4 inches think, which is handy for calculations.
