Just got a 94 pickup
Hey guys. I just bought a 94 toyota pickup 4x4 5spd 22RE.
Its my first truck, and im anxious to start wheelin with it, and upgrading it.
I have been learning as much as i can on my own by searching and reading.
But, i just need a little help understanding some stuff.
I saw TC's rig and i think someone said it has the stock suspension, with BJ spacers. I would like to make my truck able to handle the terrain that his rig can do. I want to get some new rims and tires tho.I was wondering, how big of a tire can i go before i have rubbing problems?
I want to put on a beefier tire with better tread. The tire i have on now is just for road use. I was thinking about some A/T's.
Someone wanna lead me in the right direction?

wow, that truck looks almost identical to the one I found for my Dad, that hes still driving today.... nice rig.
I dont know what TC's rig is runnin, nor what its capable of, but with some 31's and a rear locker, you should be able to have plenty of fun.

i think the first thing im going to get is some new rubber. But if i put in a new locker, would it be best to put in new gears at the same time?
Any suggestions for lockers?

Rubber is a good start. I have a set of Firestone Destination MT's that have treated me real well, a little noisy, but good wear. For AT's, I have a set of Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's on my tow rig that I really like. Great traction and quiet.
For a locker, if you're on a budget, something like a lockrite or ez-locker will fill the bill. It might make the occasional clicking noises, but for the price its a deal. It can also be installed without having to re-setup the gears. Other people may chime in that it can be a pain to drive, but I assure you, its not too bad, give it a week and you'll forget its there.
For gears, that depends. If you have plenty of money to go at it, well sure. Honestly, I'd just leave the gears it has in it, put some rubber on it, a rear locker, and wheel that for a while. When I first built mine, it got a rear locker, and new front and rear gears plus a lift. Shortly after it got a front locker. If I could do it all over again, I would have just left it with stock gears and lockers, and wheeled it till i could SAS it. However keep in mind though, mines a toy and not a DD.

Just kidding..I forget what ad that truck is from. Anyway welcome to Yotatech. As mentioned before 31x10.50's are a good place to start. Nice clean truck BTW. Than maybe down the road do a lift and go to 33's. By than you will be hooked but find that you are rubbing at full lock. And you will be addicted and needing the cure, known as SAS w/37's http://allprooffroad.com/index.php?o...ask=view&id=42
If you do the locker, do the gears too, not much sense in paying for rear end work twice... 4.88 will get you for 33's, 5.29's if you want to go w/ 35's
