Clunk in front driver side and slows the truck down

Just about a week ago I have had an issue where I here a clunking noise in the front driver side area and the truck slows down.

It almost sounds like it is engaging 4wd and then not.

It happens mostly at lower speeds..say less than 20mph but has also happened at the 50mph range as well.

Any ideas what it might be?

4wd is off
Automatic tranny on my truck

Thanks

I'd definitely pull the wheel off and inspect the brakes as well as the CV shaft... sooner than later.

Are you sure it is the front? Have you had any blown rear axle seals in the past year or so by any chance?

i have not yet removed the front wheel...it very much sounds like it comes from the front.

I have not inspected the rear inner seals but have two new ones here when I have time to install.

Ok, I just asked about the seals because I had a very similar problem, with the clunking and resistance to the truck rolling at low speeds. It ended up being brake shoes on the rear that had been fine for a very long time but were actually contaminated with oil from a leaky seal that had happened (and was repaired) long before the symptoms appeared.
