I need to put in new tie rods.
I had some aftermarket ones that had grease fittings.

Any reccomendations on "good" or "stay away" tie rod ends?
I had heard that the moog ones were no longer desireable?

Also - anyone making HD IFS tie rod sleeves?

 

I had mine replaced under the steering relay rod recall. I got one from Napa for a spare. think it's a Moog, but not sure.

Buy a spare assembly (both ends and the sleeve).

If you break one offroad, it's tough to fix without the parts, easy if you have them.

 

The ones on there are just so rusted to the sleeve that they cant be adjusted (alignment)
They would make a great spare as they are already "adjusted" (enough to get off the trail and home)

 

I had to replace just about every thing in my front end steering wise not to long ago. I got all of my stuff from advance and it was all good stuff. hell my steering rod was a genuine toyota part so i was happy.

 

I have always used Moog. I see a little mud, no rocks, and huge potholes.

 

I have heim steering. Total Chaos Makes. But, I'm sure you could make it MUCH cheaper. Just don't have them like / \ or it really doesn't matter what they're made of.

 

Advance Auto will had the "555" brand in the TRW boxes most of the time. They are high quality made in Japan. Just open the boxes before you pay to make sure they aren't some crap like Moog--soory but they are a POS brand of parts.

 

Just priced Moog here, replacing mine too, $27 for both.
I don't know about Moog being crap, Bear80, I've been happy w/ their parts on my other rigs.

 

Same here...about Moog. But, then I don't see heavy offroad use.

So, why do you say that about Moog, Bear80?

 

Cause I went through about 4 sets of lower ball joints due to crapy dust boots and not WEATHER PROOF boots. Plus all the tie rod ends I looked at use the same crap DUST boots. Seriously if I did any type of water crossing, I mean just enough to get the lower ball joints wet the ball joints where toast. Greasing it didn't help they'd pop and toss metal pieces within days. A 4x4 SHOULD have full WEATHER PROOF BOOTS! That dust stuff might cut it for a car but if Moog wants to sell me somthing for a 4x4 it better be thought through. Plus I try to make sure all the parts if not from the dealer are from Japan.
