I just installed 3" Downey leafsprings and BJ Spacer on my first gen 4runner. The stock sized shocks on it now are just too short and I'm looking for a replacement. I came accross some edlebrock shocks for $15 a piece and am considering buying them, but they are made for a 4" lift? Would these work or should I go with shorter shocks? Since they would be partially compressed at all times would they give the truck a stiffer ride? Thanks

 

if they are made for a bigger lift they will decrease your suspention travel.
Same with a shock thats too small.
I have not come across to many shocks that are made for 3" of lift.

 

Looking through the Summit Racing catalog they have skyjack hydro and nitro shocks which are rated for either 1.5-4" lift or 1.5-3" lift. Think this would be a better option? Any other ideas?

 

hmm. The 1.5-4" sounds nice. Im sure the shocks would not limit your travel at all then.

 

where did you find these 15$ shocks?

 

Summit Racing has the Edlebrock shocks on clearance for $10.50 each.

 

OME's are nice, and they work perfectly with the 1.5-2.5in lift I did.

 

i have a pair of ome n85 brand new. i can sell them for 150 shipped.

 

Flex out the truck with the shocks off and measure... Then lookup your 'preferred' manufacturer and pick the shock that has the ends you need, (loop or peg) and order em.

Real simple.

Debating about who makes better shocks is like debating about what food is the best. All you need to understand is A) your budget B) the difference between monotube and twin tube shocks..

You can pick up a good shock for around $35 a shock... If you want the best well you're looking closer to $80-$100+ per shock (ie. Bilsteins monotubes)
