I am looking for suggestions on suspension setups (shocks and springs) that will keep my ride at a stock height or slightly higher. I have a 3rd generation 4Runner 4X4 with 265/75/R16. I currently have a Bilstein shocks (stiff version) with stock springs. Most of my driving is done on pavement and I ocassionally pull a trailer. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if you want a stock ride height then why do you want to switch shocks and springs? too soft, too hard, increase payload?

If you do any towing dont touch the system 3. They are toyota springs and will drop to the ground with any weight. What year do you have now? If you want a stock height look at OME 880 or 881's in the front and OME 906 in the rear. This will be about 0.5 above a 99 stock height. The coils can take some weight too. End it off with the OME firm or comfort shocks..sweet ride

simple/ effective/ economical
front- 1 inch urethane spacers on the struts
**change the struts while you're there because the failing lower bushings on the struts will drop your truck a 1/2 inch or so.
I got back that 1/2 when I installed bilsteins.
Failing to change the struts will make you pay twice!!!!

rear.......3 inch spring spacers and airlift airbags running at 18-20 lbs.
of course......bilstein shocks in the rear.

I've had this set up for a few years and it works great.
Load up that truck and never worry about sagging.

***** most sagging 3rd gens need 3 inches or so in the rear.
My theory is to leave the truck looking stock while improving handling and performance for offroad or roadtrip use. A nice mileage/ performance package.

I just looking to improve the overall handling of the Runner since it doesn't handle like it use to since I started towing here and there. Most of my driving is done on the mess up roads of downtown Houston and I occassionaly pull a trailing full of construction trash when I don't have the Super Duty. So I guess I am looking for a comfortable ride with the capability of the occassional towing. Thanks for the inputs.

 

TRDrunner, do you still have the 99 coils? If so, I'm interested. How many miles do they have on them?

I just installed a set of 99 coils with Trekamster's and some Airlift 1000 bags for the rear. Rides pretty good, and with the addition of the airbags, it can handle a bit more weight.
