3vze + xmssn or separate

The factory shop manual prescribes putting engine AND transmission back in bolted together.

I'm close to dropping a new reman in and was wondering what to do. Either I put the transmission in separately under the vehicle (which is how i took it out) or do as the manual sez.

It's visual paints a scary picture of them together, especially since this is a 4x4 transmission. Seems like i'd have to have a lot of vertical clearance

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanx

Yeah it would take alot of overhead clearance and a engine leveler to pop it in all at once. If you have a tranny jack I'd say do them seperate. The only hard part is tighting the 2 upper bell housing bolts, but if you got them off you can get them retorqued too.

thanx for your input.

sounds like you've been there. this is my 1st motor swap. a lot of cleaning, and rubber parts replacements.

Probably mine:

I found it pretty easy bolted together. The top bolts would be a MAJOR PITA if the tranny was in the truck.

Incidentally, I took it out & put it back in by myself...

I rolled mine out of the garage to R&R the engine, you can see here even just the engine takes alot of clearance:

for just a rear main i wouldnt worry with the tranny i pulled my motor out in the back yard on grass with a cherry picker but then again to me its all about resources and me being on the ground under the car less is better but if you got a garage .....id prolly pulled it all out together

This is how I get the top 2 on a 22RE and several other cars I've done over the years, I'm not positive it works on the V6 but I see no reason it won't. Get all the other bolts in place but not torqued yet. Then with a jack under the back of the transmission unbolt the transmission crossmember and lower the jack until you can clearly see the top two holes on the bellhousing from the back of the transmission. Then use a 3 foot extension or a combination of extensions to get about that length on your ratchet to get them in. It's been easy as pie since I figured that trick out...
