I am experiencing the same slow intermittent coolant leak as Trinok as described in his post at https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/severe-coolant-leak-1991-3-0-pu-107723/
Someone replied to that post saying that he thinks it is the water pump. I am going to be replacing this, is that a general consensus of the culprit? What else should i clean up/remove/replace/fix at the same time while i'm in there? What i know of so far is the timing belt should be done at the same time, and the thermostat. Thank you for your tips and suggestions and helpful hints, i really appreciate it.

Check/replace the two timing idler pulleys. Those are fairly cheap, and good insurance to have them replaced. May as well do the front main too.

Basically, since its such a PITA to change all that stuff, best to just do it all at once so everything is new.

 

x2 on the timing belt & idler pulleys if necessary.

just make sure when you're slapping it all back together you've got the timing set correctly and the crank pulley bolt tight. i made the first mistake on my truck, a shop made the 2nd one. either way, it meant a lot of anger and wasted time...

 

isnt there only one idler pulley?

To make it easy for you when rotating the cams, I highly recommend to buy the cam sprocket holding tool. You also may need to buy the camshafts and crankshaft seals. If your drive belts are old and worn out, you may need to buy them too. You may want to include the upper and lower radiator hoses. I bought my hoses from NAPA and it costs me about 30 bucks for both.

How did it go with your timing belt change? About to do mine...any advise? Do you have a list of parts you purchased and where? I am building my list now. I know there are service tools I have to buy...where did you purchase yours if any?

 

How many miles are on your vehicle? Do you know when the last time the timing belt was changed and what parts were replaced at that point?

Reason I ask, many of the parts suggested replacing at a timing belt change don't always need replacing. They usually last far longer than a timing belt and may still be good. That's why the manuals usually give instructions for inspection. I don't know....I hate blowing money on parts when they're still perfectly fine, personally.

Plus, you can do the job just fine without all the special tools....just you're basic ones. Tips and tricks sort of thing, if you're interested.
