Do I need new tires?

Do I need new tires. I couldn't remember the test that you can do with a coin let alone what type of coin it was. I used a nickel for comparsion and the current tires are yokohama geolanders AT

I've been happy with them and they done me good off-road. I've been following the nittro terragrappler (sp) vs bfg threads though.

In between various sections of tread you will find small bars that connect the tread here and there, those are called wear bars. When your tread gets low enough to be even with or almost even with those bars, that means, by manufacture specs you will not have adequate hydroplane resistance and all the tread left is harder and deemed insufficient for various things like cornering and hard braking etc...
