Need Advice- Just a tight new engine?!

Just finished a brand new 22r in my 86 and it's noisier than the old one. Is this normal? The increased noise is a constant drone that goes up and down in pitch with increases and decreases in RPMs. Just a tight new motor? The noise does not seem to be exhaust related. This is my 1st new motor and I am real jittery-- all experience is appreciated.

Will do. I have searched a lot and found people who've smoked their newly installed engines. I want to avoid this. Thank you!

I just noticed you're in Austin. I'm in Miami right now, but I'll be back in about 2 weeks... If you're willing to bring it out to where I am, I'm happy to listen to it.

I would say do a good valve adjustment and see what that does. Also make sure the timing is good. When I redid the HG and TC on my 22RE 6 weeks ago the first fireup was SUPER noisy, a little valve adjustment and I was back to normal noise.
