tapping into sonoran IFS truss to mount budbuilt
my budbuilt IFS skid is currently mounted to the stock skid attach points but I have been meaning to attach it more permanently to the sonoran truss.
I've been told that I will need to tap into it in order to mount. If anyone has any thoughts on this (size bits, tools required, do I need to unmount the truss or can I leave it on (please please!) that would be great. someone I talked to yesterday was wondering if the truss was designed for this...I did not know. any thoughts much appreciated, would love to mount these two together soon

I don't see why you couldn't do this. As far as a tap set, you first need to find the size of bolt that you will use. You will need a tap set that coincides with the thread and size of bolt you are useing. I would imagine you could do this with it mounted although I suppose it would be easier with it sitting on a bench.

Someone here has already done this but i can't remember who or exactly what they did. Anyway...
I don't think tapping into the brace would be the best idea though. Having protruding bolt heads would defeat the purpose of a flat bottom and potentially tweak the brace or skid if a bolt was to hit a rock. If you decide to do it this way, use the cheapest grade bolts you can find so they will break rather than bend up your expensive armor.
I would recommend doing this instead...
Drill two holes all the way through the truss and insert carriage bolts through the skid plate AND the truss.
Finish it off with nylon lock nuts on top. That would give you a worry free mounted skid plate.

great idea rocket
Rocket this is an absolutely great idea. I like the thought of carriage bolts drilled through the entire truss. This seems like it might even be a stronger solution than tapping. thanks so much for writing I really appreciate it
hey by the way I know that you had the budbuilt bellypan and xmember for your 2nd gen, I'd love to hear any of your observations
thanks again Rocket
