Question re: replacing gauges on 3rd gen
Over the past couple weeks, I've been experiencing a number of wiring/electrical issues. Most recently, the fuse keeps popping on my parking lamps. Consequently, I don't have any dash lights. I've practically torn apart the whole truck trying to track down the short to no avail. Several weeks ago I lost my tachometer for no apparent reason. The revs still register on my S-AFC, but my tach is dead. Checked the connections - nothing wrong. So, now I'm thinking of replacing the entire gauge cluster with a combination of gauges (autometer or the like) in a custom mount. This would allow me to run speedo, tach, fuel, and temp, but I could also relocate my air/fuel meter, and possible run another gauge. My question is this: If a wire is disconnected from behind the gauge cluster, will it affect the way the vehicle runs? For example, if I don't connect the battery light or O/D light or ECT light, will the vehicle stop running?
Thanks! And, as always, any input or suggestions are grealy appreciated!

If your going to replace the entire dash, I ran across this one on ebay:
