Need to bump the rear end up on my 89 4runner, but JCWhitney doesn't offer them for the 89 4runner. However, they do offer them for the 84-88 4runner.

What's the differnece between the 84-88 vs. 89 4runner leaf springs? Thanks.

No difference.

Most parts suppliers just take the Truck parts list and re-label it as a 4Runner parts list. None of them have done any research, otherwise they would know that the trucks changed body styles in 89.5 and the 4Runners changed in 90. I've learned to just ask for parts for an 88 4Runner. 99.9% of the time you'll be fine. Getting parts for an 89 truck pulls that average down to about 60%.
FYI - I reccomend the Rancho Soft-Ride AAL's. Work great for me.

 

The Rancho Soft Ride AAL (if its the one Im thinking of - take out the bottom leaf and add two leafs back) is great..

But like all AAL, the "re-arch" of the lower leafs will eventually "cut" the upper leafs via wear.... granted Im talking about 100K miles,, but it will wear them.

But then again - at 350K ... Ive gone through several mods to the suspension

Crappy site, I'm sorry to say. I ordered the AAL's from a local parts store.

 

I bought some add-a-leafs that where for an 86 pickup, (not sure if this helps) but they will work on my 91 rig. On the procomp website the parts number is the same so..

 

Won't the add a leafs keep the suspension from "flexing", or "traveling" like it should? Wouldn't new springs let the suspension flex like it should?

Seems like add a leafs would make the suspension stiffer.

A long thin add-a-leaf will flex fine, a short thick (i.e. STIFF) AAL will not flex. The Rancho Soft Ride kit includes a long, thin leaf and a shorter, slightly thicker leaf. You can mix-n-match those two leaves with the bottom leaf in your current pack to get the ride height and flex you are looking for. A buddy of mine runs those leaves (just the thin leaf for now) and they work fine:
