Smile ISR mod, one week later...

Did the ISR mode last week on my 2000 Limited. Pretty happy with how it sounds under heavy acceleration, yet is quiet when cruising at 2000 RPM's. My ass Dyno seems to say that there is a noticable increase in power, especially mid-high RPM's. I didn't tell my wife that I had did it, and after driving the truck in the city she asked, "did you do something to the truck, it seems more peppy." I have never been so proud to call her my wife.

I was curious about MPG changes after this mod. While I am pretty into tracking my milage (especially at $1.10/Liter!!) so I was very disapointed when I only was getting 16-17 MPG on the highway the last two road trips (PRE ISR MOD.) Just got back from a 400 mile trip this weekend, and my gas milage was 19.5 MPG and 21 MPG. The only change I made was the ISR.

CONCLUSION: BETTER SOUND, BETTER POWER, BETTER MPG

Wow, that sounds harsh, but I laughed out loud when I read it. I track my mpg too and I think you need more than 1 trip to determine your overall change.

Did you do the deckplate mod too? I didn't get a real sound difference from just the ISR. Well glad it helped!

What does that have to do with anything? I am just posting my experiances, thought that some people might benifit. No one is forceing you to read it. It must be easy to get 1600 posts when this is all you contribute to the site.

I just did the ISR, no deckplate yet. I agree that I need to do a few more trips to get MPG #'s, just happy with what I have gotten so far.

K_southman,

I am tracking my mileage as well. I averaged around 17 mpg . HOWEVER, following a deckplate mod, ISR mod, True flow air filter, and MAF sensor cleaning, my mileage has averaged 18.5 - 18.6 with an increased throttle response (towing a 500 lb. lawn mower on a trailer). I even hit 19.6 mpgs w/o the trailer towing . The ONLY regret that I have is that I did not do it all sooner...Good luck

Regards,

BWJ

Glad to see you got better gas milage w/ this mod.

I've done the mod as well, but my mpgs didn't really improve. I was avg 19-23 mpg doing 60% - 100% highway driving before and now after this mod, I'm still getting the same (guess it's hard to improve on something that is already good). However, I can feel the small gain in acceleration.

Cool your wife noticed it

I've taken my ISR off. It's annoyingly loud above 2000rpm. I didnt notice any more "pep" in performance......

doing it in conjunction with the deckplate gives a verrrry noticable sound difference, however yeah crusing you still dont hear it inless you do exhaust upgrades like I have done.

show us a pic of the engine bay, i need to redo my ISR area.

I feel the same way... I had removed it for a day, got sick of the noise, and put the silencer back on. I noticed a difference in performance with the deckplate and the noise is tolerable, but the ISR is just obnoxious imo...
