Relacing timing belt...do I need to discharge AC system?

I'm replacing the timing belt on my 02 Tacoma soon. My Haynes manual says I need to have the AC system discharged so that the AC compressor may be completely removed from the vehicle. However, I heard from someone that the AC compressor does not have to be evacuated. They say that the compressor may simply be loosened from its mount and shifted to the side with its intake and outlet hoses still attached and charged. Does anyone know weather I need to get the AC compressor discharged or not? Thanks!

I just had mine done and they didn't have to discharge the AC on my 2000 4runner so i am assuming you won't either.

No don't have it discharged. In fact, you don't even need to move the compressor to get to the timing belt. All I had to do was loosen the tension on the A/C belt IIRC.

You do have a 3.4, right?
