Timing chain replacement recommendations in L.A.?

I have the original timing chain on my '88 22R at 177K miles. Nothing I ever thought about until I found this forum. Now I'm starting to think seriously about having the timing chain replaced at the 20 year mark, just to be safe.

This is probably beyond my ability -- certainly beyond my confidence level. Any recommendations on service places in the greater LA area (prefereably west side) that can do the job right and install one of the heavy duty set ups? Am I better off buying the parts and bringing them in, and if yes, which parts are preferred? I've heard about engine builders, but I'm sure there are others. And what is a reasonable amount to pay to have the job done right? Anything else that should be done at the same time?

Yeah, get the parts and bring them to the mechanic. Get the timing chain kit from engbldr (aka Ted), it has the steel guide that doesn't prematurely wear out, crack, or deteriorate like the Toyota ones. You can get the kit on ebay or directly from Ted himself.

From what I read here, the engnbldr kit is the way to go

Is this something any mechanic can do, or are there any recommended shops / mechanics in the LA area for engine work like replacing the timing chain? I've heard so many horror stories about hack mechanics over the years I'd rather go to someone recommended - preferably by someone here on yotatech based on personal experience - instead of some clown with an ad in the yellow pages

I just installed one of his kits on a 87 22r the steel guide rail makes the most sense
