My valve cover gaskets have been leaking for some time now. I plan on replacing them. I'm in the process of making up my parts list.
1. Valve cover gaskets
2. erg valve gaskets
3. intake manifold (top) gasket.
4. knock sensor wire
I hope I don't have to disturb any more than that. Taking TB/Plenum off to get to Pasenger side cover.
Any help?
Did I forget anything?

 

PCV valve and grommet.....how old is that? Any vacuum hoses look aged? Wire harnesses? Hose clamps? See if the one coolant hose under the TB might need replacing.

Yep, not much is more frustrating half way into a job and finding something breaks and you're unprepared.

 

I'll add pcv valve and grommet to my list. I haven't ordered anything yet. I just got a torque wrench and some pb blaster.I'm not planning to start until monday or tuesday. Got all weekend to think about it.

You'll need to remove the intake manifold to get to the knock sensor to remove the wire, so you'll need the two botton gaskets for the intake as well.

Be VERY CAREFUL when you pull the plenum off; there is a little plastic nipple thingy (technical term, anyone?) that will break off if you don't pay attention.

 

Did the valve cover replacement, broke the plastic thingy (TVV valve), did the redneck fix which has worked very well

got the bottom intake gasket on my list thanks tnrabbit. Yeah I got all weekend to plan it.

 

its a good idea to replace your heater hoses while you have it off, its so easy with the plenium off

 

Heater hoses look good but I got them on the list now. If I don't do them (Murphy's law)I don't want to say in november I should have done them in april.:

 

Well I'm headed to the parts store.If they got the valve cover gaskets. I'll order what they don't have and dive into this project when I get home .

Well It's Saturday morning and I'm calling parts store and If they got the gaskets I'm diving into this mission.

 

Make sure you've got something to clean off the top of the intake manifold. The old gasket will probably be baked on. You will need cleaning fluid, like brake cleaner fluid, acetone or mineral spirits. A small tube of RTV for the half moon areas are also needed.

Also, check you torque specs. The valve cover bolts shouldn't be too tight.
