Question Anyone haul dirtbikes behind 4runner?

I need a way to haul my CR250 around, and I am thinking of a hitchmount carrier. I was just wondering if anyone has ever used them on their 4runner, and if so, how do they do? These are the ones I am looking at:

1. www.motojackrack.com

2. http://www.ready-2-ride.com/Webpages/navpro-carrier.htm

3. http://www.truckspecialties.com/hitch_rack.htm

I can't really comment on any of the carriers, though the Ready-2-Ride looks like the best idea (outside of the spelling errors on the web page ). But, no matter what you get, you should look into a hitch stabilizer as well. They come in a couple of different flavors:

There's another one as well which is a full collar.

You'll want it to reduce/stop the rattle and bouncing when you put an accesory into your receiver like that.

I've never used them but i figured it was the best way outside of getting a trailer. If I ever got one I was thinking I would have to get some sitiffer springs, thats a lot of weight to have hanging off the back end of your truck. here is another one that I have found that I liked.

Would you really need stiffer springs? I would think that it could handle it. The rated tongue weight on the Runner is 500lbs. My bike weighs about 213, so with the rack, I would probably be looking at about 300lbs on the tongue.

Joe Hauler

Hey JJ,

I used a Joe Hauler for years to take my YZ 250 around. It was great. I was kinda worried about the fact it's only held in by one point, but even going over bumpy dirt roads, albeit slowly, it was fine.

Plus, no license or registration!! I would recommend putting reflectors on it since (at least mine) stuck out a bit on the sides of the truck. If nothing else, it'll help to protect your shins 'cuz hopefully you'll see it. OUCH!

Oh, and I did not replace the springs. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it's necessary.

that ready to ride option looks like one my brother uses for his bike, and he seems to like it. i'm planning on getting a dirt bike in the near future, i'll probably get one similar to that.

I'm still researching, and so far it actually looks like the motojackrack is the way to go. Supposedly it's MORE secure than the channel type carrier, lighter, and you don't have to compress the forks.
