Air conditioning intermittent squeal

First off I've bought an 85 pickup with the idea of fixing it up for the current worth of my 4runner and then selling the 4runner to get my money back (money then to be used to install wood flooring in the house). Well, my wife drove the 4runner for the first time today because I had her van loaded with stuff to be returned. Anyway, now she wants us to keep the 4runner! Gonna have to figure out the money thing but I'm pretty happy about that.

Ok, for the ac question... I went mudding a while back and afterwards when I would turn the ac on it would squeal at a certain speed. Now it squeals more often, even on a constant speed on the interstate. It's intermittent and comes in and out. Any ideas? I'm thinking its the clutch or maybe just the belt but I doubt its the belt...

Thanks for the help (and this is the first topic I've ever searched with ZERO hits on Yotatech)

Actually, I'd say belt is your best bet. Try tightening it a little and see if the squeaking goes away, otherwise replace it. The longer it squeaks, the worse that belt will get by the way.

I would say that 90% of the time if the problem is precluded by "I just went through some mud/water" it's the belt slipping.
