Finally got the engine out of my truck!!

89 4runner with the 22re. Engine is sitting in my wheelbarrow.

Best friend (who owns two service stations and a muffler shop) is coming over tomorrow and bringing his engine stand.

I'll take some pics tomorrow. Getting excited about getting the bottom end done and bolting the engnbldr complete cylinder head package onto the redone bottom end!!

Whoo hoooo!!!

Oh man, if you only knew!! I had to use a come along to get the engine out, then push the truck back in order to get the wheelbarrow under the engine. . Kinda spooky way to do it.

That's just how the engine came out. The entire bottom of the vehicle is just like that......no rust/corrosion damage anywhere. It was a long ride from Texas to Michigan almost two years ago with it (with a tired engine), but I just can't stand rust on a vehicle. And here in Michigan, you gotta park your toys for the winter, otherwise, they get destroyed with road salt.

Just got done taking the clutch off of the engine. There's a part in there that says "This side towards flywheel"........well THAT side was towards the fingers. Still shifted out great, but man, the quality of work out there is truely amazing!!!

Got the clutch off (looks pretty good to my untrained eyes.......not too much wear and tear) and the fly wheel. Flywheel looks except except for a couple spots that are slightly "mirror like" in appearance. Will have it resurfaced even though it shifted out great before.

Dropped the oil pan and found a couple pieces of plastic timing gear and some other small debris.

More later.

32'x48' building. Dad said I needed something to keep all my toys in and have a place to work on stuff. Said he'd pay for the building, which he and my Mother did.

Me and my contractor buddy built the building in 2004. My Dad died in 2005.

He was honest, giving, and straight forward to the end. Man, I miss that Man.

Finally got the engine on my engine stand and have all the pistons out of the block. From my inexperienced eyes, things look pretty good. Removed the pistons thru the top of the engine. Crank is still in the block.

Now what do I do? Have to get to work. Pics tomorrow.

Also, anybody have a link to some good pistons, rings, bearings, etc.? Thanks.

Man, I love this wrenching stuff!!!

I just got done cruising thru engnbldr's site (again). Forgot that he handled pistons and rings as well. I bought my entire top end from him a month or so ago........as you state, he is a top notch guy.

Will try and get my buddy the mechanic over tomorrow to look at what I got. The whole crankshaft bearing, clearances, etc., baffles me, so need Scott's expertise on the lower end. Cylinders look real good, crank looks good, everything looks real good for an engine with 175,000 miles on it.

Pics tomorrow.
