Anyone know the difference in weight rating between the 4runner and Tacoma coils?

I found that Tundra coils are @ 800# and OME 881's are @ 500#. How on earth do your kidneys not get shook out with the Tundra's up front?!

 

I have often wondered the same thing, and would 4runner lift springs, give a tacoma MORE lift than a 4runner?

 

Well the 4runner lift springs are the same for the Tacos... (OME at least).

Not sure about the coil-overs like SAW's, Donahoe, etc... They seem to have different part #'s for 4runners and Tacomas.

My guess is that stock, the coils from a 4runner do have a higher weight rating because they do weight more than a Tacoma.

I just want to see what the difference is. I heard that OME are rated at about 500#, and the Tundra's are around 800#. If this is true, I really am concerned about putting Tundra coils on my rig as I thought that OME coils were pretty much just perfect in "stiffness".

I cannot figure out how all these people running Tundra setups are saying that its a great ride when they are rated @ 800# coils?!?!?!

 

The reason why the Tundra coils don't knock out your fillings is they are progressive.
The OME springs up front are not.

 

When I did the Tundra/OME lift I installed the retaining cup on the bottom of the coil upside down so I didn't gain much height and thought the ride was very good, actually.

The 4Runners have a heavier front end than Tacomas so a spring that is specifically for a 4Runner would lift a Tacoma a _LITTLE_ bit more.

 

That would be a great idea, switch the cup over.

Of course the Tokicos I'll be using are not able to be flipped.

I have 2wd Tundra coils, not sure if they are TRD or not. I was hoping to get less lift from them. I got them from Jim and he said they gave him no lift with a bumper up front.

I think I am getting a slightly lower stance with the Tacoma's I have right now. The turns are actually touching in the top 3 coil turns. Im hoping stock 4runner coils will be stiff enough not to do this, but not give me any extra lift. Hmm..

 

You should just have to compress the coil, take the shock out, flip the cup over and put it all back on the shock...

 

Yeah I know what you're talking about. The Tokico lower cups on the shock are welded on. The OME's are able to slide off and be flipped.
