I am looking for a snow plow for a 1988 Toyota 2WD pickup. I found a company that has them for 1989-1995 2WD Toyota pickups. I thought the frames were the same for 1988 and 1989 models. Can someone explain if there really is a difference?

There are some differences in the frames, especailly the way the front buymper mounts. Likely, the 89 style are setup for side mount, where the 88 has front mount bumper brackets, among other things.

I was going to say the same thing; I don't think a 2WD would be worth two ˟˟˟˟˟˟ with a plow...

 

A good locker and some wieght. It might work

 

My 2wd Nissan doesnt move in the snow, My 2wd Isuzu did great cause it was an underpowered POS so it could hardly spin. My dads FS Chevy 2wd is bad in the snow too

 

my p/u doesn't like snow in 2wd. If i park along the street with the right tire in the patch they dont plow i cant backup without putting in in 4. I also cant back into my driveway (slight uphill) in 2wd. I personally wouldn't even bother. If you need a plow truck look by the sides of the road this spring, and im sure you can find a beat up f-150, or silverado with a plow for $1500 or less.

The plow mount on my 89' 4x4 attaches to the frame rails at the tow hook bolts and the hole behind them. I don't think there is a difference there between the years or 2x to 4x. Its going to be pretty low though.

 

I don't know how a Toyota 2wd does in snow, but each vehicle I've ever driven has been different. My wifes BroncoII won't move an inch in 2wd but is one of the best in 4wd. My old '90 Dodge ram goes like a snowshoe rabbit & it's only a 2wd, granted it's heavy & it has a sure grip rear end & really aggressive tires.

I think if you have a good set of tires or chains & weight in the back on top of a locker it'll probably work; a 4wd would be better though.
