im lookin for a couple inches of lift and as of yet all i can rly afford is to crank my t-bar and throw on some new shackles. its a 94 with a 22re engine. it runs awesome and is in great condition. im lookin for input on where to buy the shackles and what type to buy. and also the importance of an allignment. first off how bad is it going to hurt my tires if i dont and 2nd are they going to b able to allign fully, cause the guy i talked to said he wouldnt b able to bring it back if i went over like half an inch. 70 bucks for half an inch doesnt exactly seem to b worth it. thanks for the input.

 

The words "cheap" and "good" are rarely in the same sentence in regards to lifting or modifying your truck. Cranking your t-bars and putting on shackles will give you a little lift, but your ride will suffer, especially in the front. You will probably deal with tire wear issues with your bars cranked to a 2" lift. I did on my 86. Just my 2c. Good luck.

 

And a body lift is completely out of the question?

 

unless a body lift is going to b under 100 bucks... and im rly not looking for much. a couple of inches all around just to say i am. lol. maybe some slightly bigger tires in the future, but not for a while. if there was a cheap body lift of 2inches all around and not just in the front for cheap, and was "good" lol, then it would b a possibility

 

Short of a drop bracket lift, this is your best bet, unless you plan on launching the truck...

 

I'm one of those people that don't 'hate' on a body lift. Other than being a pain to install (versus a suspension lift), they do a good job.

I've read that they can tweak body mount points, or break upon impact due to the increased leverage of the lengths of the bolts, (which does make sense) but I've yet to see this happen.

My buddy had an old 2WD Nissan we did a 3" BL on, and he beat the royal crap out of it, with no ill effects. Ended up bending the frame before noticing any damage caused by the body lift.

With that said, I just added a 3" BL on my 4Runner, around $95. I've put 'em on Jeeps, Buggies, Nissans, etc.

 

what size tire do you want to run?
just to give you a rundown on my 2wd... i got 2.5'' out of my torsions (torsions are about 3 turns from the top) and another 1'' from the ball joint spacers. with that my 235/75-15 still rub on the rear of the front fender wells. on the rear i put on downey shackles and it lifted it about 1.25''. i have lots of clearance in the back. next i am doing a 2'' 4crawler body lift as soon as it arrives in the mail. with that i should have no more problems and am planing on turning the torsions back down a few turns for some more spring. another thing to keep in mind too is when you mess with the torsion bars you going to need an alignment. so thats more money you will have to spend also.

 

Sky Manufacturing has a 1" body lift for around $70 USD. They also have U-Bolt Flip Kits and a wide variety of suspension modification parts, some of which are fairly reasonable.
