My truck has been gurgling (that is the best way to describe it) after I go mudding for quite some time now. It stops after I drive a little bit. I had my exhaust done awhile ago and I told the shop to not worry about a tail pipe and to just end it right after the muffler (I didn't want to pay the extra for a tail pipe). Well they ended up doing a tail pipe (for free), but it arches over the rear axle and then points straight down. It does not curve back up, it just exits straight towards the pavement. Could water be getting in my exhaust with a set up like this?

 

just wondering, where is the gurgling coming from?

 

Maybe its the radiator?

 

mine ends right at the muffler bout axle height and its been like that 4 about 3years but i dont do serious offroading but ive never had a problem

 

I get into some seriously deep holes regularly, and I think your definitely thinkin' along the right lines. That hasn't happened to me yet, what your sayin' there. But, I haven't had my engine stop running with my exhaust submerged. I think that'd do it, or maybe a hole in the cat or muffler. Mine is set up like yours minus the muffler and neato tailpipe you got.

 

My Runner gurggled one time after wheelin it hard thru water and mud, too. It ran fine with the tail pipe submerged. Later I found that it was just water and mud moving around inside the frame! Is that where yours is making that sound too?

 

If I rev my engine I can feel a little bit of resistance from it. Not a lot but its there. Its like the engine gurgles but I just thought it was my exhaust.

 

Probably should check all of your fuids, and run your car for a little bit. If there was water in your tailpipe, it would easily burn off/evaporate after running your engine for a while.

Do a once-over of your engine bay too, paying attention to the intake mostly.

 

check your air filter perhaps this gurgling you describe is kinda a spurttering? just a thought

 

Yeah I guess its sputtering. It goes away after I drive it maybe a couple miles.

 

Did you look at your dist. cap? See if it got wet inside?

Bringing this subject back up...

This happens when i go through a puddle on the road!? I was driving and went through a puddle after a good rain and sure enough theres the gurgling.

 

maybe just a tad got into your manifold via the air box... mines done that a couple times, and every time it has i have almost immediately flushed the engine and replaced all the engine fluids... namely being oil and the liquid tuneup stuff i use every oil change. works great.

 

Its not going through the air box. the puddle was on my right side and the air box on the left.

 

Maybe you have a plug with a cracked insulator fouling when wet , or maybe a wire that is arcing when wet ???
