Help! YouTube driving me crazy

So here's the deal... When I try to watch vids on youtube lately (in the last few weeks) it'll load the whole thing, but will only play part of it before it ends and shows the screen with related vids.

For example, I just tried to watch this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5KyVaeeW54 that Corey had posted in a thread. It shows that it's 1:54 long, but will only play till 24 sec. then stops. If I try to play it again, it will stop in the same spot.

WTH is going on?? Any ideas? I'm running XP home, Pentium 4 3.06GHz, 512 MB ram, 160GB harddrive on a wireless ADSL connection.

No major hardware or software changes recently (except upgraded to a newer version of AVG but that was after this started happening)

Julie, does it do it on all vids?
Are you on dialup, cable, DSL?

Might be your connection timing out.
Try another video too to see if it does the same thing.

Hi Corey,

Yes it seems to do it on all vids lately[edit: all vids on youtube only]. I'm on DSL. We have a wireless network set up at home that I've been fighting with recently. The connection does cut out sometimes. I thought this might be the problem, but I'm a little confused because, it does actually load the whole video (the red line goes all the way to the end) and if I try to play it again it stops in the exact same spot.

That is weird.
Here, try this 3 MB video on my server, and see if it does it too.

I am not up on wireless tech at all.
I refuse at home to switch over to it at this time.
I like my cat 5 cable to much

Yep, that one works fine. It seems to only be YouTube. I just tried google video, and some others and no problems there. *sigh* I really hate computers sometimes. Perhaps it'll improve when I install the new router tomorrow (just grasping at straws now)

Good idea staying away from the wireless. If I had a choice there would be a cat 5 hanging outta the back of this machine right now. Our house is pretty big though, and having that much cable run all over would not be good.

thanks for your help thus far Corey

I'm not sure what kind of video compression YouTube uses, but you should try updating your drivers for it...

That is weird, I have never had a problem with You Tube at home or work.
It starts to play right away.

Using the latest Firefox too.

You tube is dying. It's too big a target now for copy written works. Most TV and movie material is taken down within a few days. Shows like SNL and Top Gear, for example, are removed almost immediately. Just try searching for some of those episodes on You Tube. Not gonna happen. Google Video, however, appears to be flying under the radar for the moment, and their layout is simpler, and less cluttered, imo. Plus, You Tube is no longer viewable for me here at work. It claims I have an out of date flash player. Whatever.
