i will be waiting even though my computer is more than capable of running it.
i am waiting till i hear that businesses have used it for a few months and are happy.
here at my office, we are delaying implementing vista for another 3 or 4 months.

Historically it takes at least 1 big service pack type update for MS to really get it right, I'd wait for SP1 at least. As much as I dislike microsoft I haven't seen as much negative stuff about Vista as I expected. Maybe they did better this time. I'd still hold off unless you really need/want some new feature that Vista has.

I handle all the computers for 100+ employees and I have had my fits with Vista. However recently I have been running the RTM for a couple of months and love it. Rock solid and zippy provided you have supported hardware and a nice video card. SP1 is rumured to be on the way soon as well since the RTM has been out since Nov. of last year.

One part of my job is evaluating new technologies.
I've had Vista BETAs, RTM (Release To Manuf.) and the Home and Ultimate versions and in a word - unimpressed.
I actually don't have a real good reason to get Vista at all. I've got ultimate on one of my machines at home and I play with it from time to time but I haven't been able to see it outpace XP with the same peripherals yet.

Is it more usefull than XP Pro, no.
As for the coolness factor, and the amenities so far it's good. I built a new machine last week, threw oem ultimate on it and so far so good, no issues yet.
The major factor I would say so far is NVidia's lax driver updates. Its a big problem if you have older hardware. People are pretty pissed about it.

check out maximum pc i believe...they brought up some good points one why not to upgrade to vista.
here's my thinking on why not to as well.
1) micrsoft needs to make some money so they release a new os with barely any new features. originally they had a lot of good ideas that they just couldn't get to work. hence the extremely delayed release... they decided to get something working and then get it out asap.
2) don't be a beta tester. remember xp? most people upgraded to xp a yr or 2 after it's release because it had so many issues. remember, drivers aren't out for everything so some of your peripherals aren't going to work.
3) happy with xp? stick with it till vista's really worth your while.

I was setting up a new computer with Vista for a customer the other day and I was not very impressed. It did not seem much different from XP except for it took a lot longer to load. IE crashed within the first 2 hours of using it. I also noticed that it already had 9 updates on the day after it was released!
I will probably wait a while before I upgrade.

i'm running vista on my new laptop.
i like it so far. and it sure does look a lot better than xp.
the only significant issues so far i've run into is not being able to run extensis suitcase (font manager program) and avg free antivirus.
there is some truth to the mac security ad (http://www.apple.com/getamac/) here haha, i haven't messed with the security settings yet.

I've heard some things I don't like.
Like Microsoft can see what programs you have on your PC that are pirated and can delete said programs.
I don't need big brother Microsoft watching my PC.
