3.4L V6 to W56 Bellhousing? Does it exist?

Does anyone make a bellhousing to bolt a 5VZE 3.4L to my W56 Transmission? I want to keep the gear drive trans, and not have to make modifications to my floor by putting in the R 151F trans. Im doing the ORS swap in my 86 4Runner soon. Its not going to be wheeled much if at all, so high strength trannys like the R151F are not an issue.

Any ideas or thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!

I dont think you can do that, nor would I. The W56 is alot weaker than a R series. Get an r151f or at least r150f its way stronger and will hold up to the tourqe that motor is putting out. The floor work would not be that hard especially if your gonna do that swap.

anything is possible, but i highly doubt anyone else would have wanted to do that before. They made adapters to bolt a gear drive tcase to R150s already.

from marlin crawlers website

V6 Adapter Plate

Allows 4Cyl gear driven transfer case to bolt onto 1988-1995 3.0L 5speed V6 transmission replacing chain drive case.

Rob from supracharged made his own casting to adapt 7Ms to R151/150, i'll likely be getting one someday

I agree that an R-series would be a better choise. However a W-series tranny will hold up to a 3.4 just fine.

The W-series was used behind NA 7M's putting out 200hp and 188ft-lbs(this seems low to me for an I6). The 5VZ-FE puts out 190Hp and 220ft-lbs. So not a whole lot of difference. So I'm betting the W would hold up.

However, as I've already said the R-series would be a better choise, it is stronger and they bolt right up to the 3.4. And I've never heard of a bellhousing to go from a 6cyl motor to a 4cyl tranny.

I don't understand why you would have to modify the floor for a R151F, that makes little since

Shifters are in different locations for different transmissions. I had to modify the floor of my 87 when I installed an R150F turbo trans.

R151F Turbo Trans (not being a jerk just didn't want confusion)

Surely its not that bad, but I digress you will need a R-150F from behind a 3vze with and adaptor plate with gear drive trans or a R151F Tailhousing and T-case.

Sorry yea, you are correct. I always get the two confused.

I have an R151F in my 4Runner. It is indeed a 4cyl turbo trans. Point being I did have to modify the floor slightly.

Really in all honesty this is it :

R151F/R150F Bellhousing [You] R150F/Marlin Adaptor plate/Gear drive t-case

Otherwise know as :

Rock [You] Hardplace

Honestly R150F for ~$500 plus ~$400 for the plate = ~$900 (I included shipping and RTV and seals)

Or R151F for ~$700 = ~$700 plus better performance

I priced the trans high due to you'll need one in good condition, I assume if you don't want to mod the floor you don't want to rebuild the trans.

All R-Series trans will eventually have an issue with the bearing retainer and 1st/2nd shift fork, when the trans is put under stress!

I dont know much about them, but its worth a shot.

You might be able to make an adapter plate, and adjust the clutch enough to make up for the extra length added from the adapter plate. Of advance adapters might carry a throwout bearing with a thicker profile to make up for the difference.

Just a thought

Is my understanding correct that a transmission from a V6 will not work in a 4cyl?

What i am getting at is that i need a new transmission for my truck. I believe i have a w56-e transmission currently in the vehicle. (The truck is a 1994 4cyl 4x4) I am looking at buying this one in this ad. http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/2272237908.html

I will call the seller tomorrow for more details, but just want to know if that transmission from a v6 will go in my 4cyl.

Red face

I really don`t see the problem just take the 2 bell housings and make one.

The only important part is to make sure the over all length is correct

So that the clutch parts are at the correct distance to work.

Of course this is not something you can do under the tree on a nice day.

Is it worth the cost that is up to you . It is a option

Thanks. According to this chart, it looks like a w56 transmission, regardless if it is a w56-a, w-56-c, or w56-e is the same unit. http://www.marlincrawler.com/tech/tr...ar-ratio-chart

They are all the same length. Do you know how many bolts there are for a bell housing to a v6 vs to the 4cyl?
