I have a set of sr5 alloys sitting in my garage but I cant make up my mind on whether to mount them up to my 32's or not. I like the backspacing the steel wheels provide but have always thought chrome looks kind of 80's ish. Also, I am moving back to Wisconsin in a few weeks and I have seen so many chrome wheels that were all rusty and gross looking. I guess I need a little feedback on what would look better.

I say, keep your chromes. If they start to look bad you can paint them. I bought a used set similar to yours. They were in bad shape. Some prep work and a $5 dollar can of wheel paint at autozone and they look great.

what size are the alloys, err, what's the biggest meat you can put on 'em? I might be interested in takin 'em off yer hands.

They are the stock 15x7 alloys, actually you can see them in the bed of my truck in the first post if you look closely.

 

You could keep the chrome ones and give the stockers to me.

 

chrome is so cheesy, either stick with the alloys or paint those steelies olive drab or desert tan anything but chrome. my opinion 2

 

They dont look bad at all. I dont know why you would swap em. Chrome is easier to keep up then alu. I just got that same style wheel in alu. and i hate how hard they are to clean and keep clean. Even if my trucks on the trail everyweekend i still have to keep it clean on the street. If the chrome flakes off then get it off and paint them or even pick up a set used. those wheels are like 30-40 at peerless tire new

 

Though nice lookin rims style wise, I'd say paint em black or something.

Those stock alloys look sharp like that. Did you paint them? Did you use the writeup in the tech? What did you use to clean the old crap off of them?


I say keep the chromies though. Much better look overall then the alloys.

 

Thanks, I used one of those rust/paint remover wheels from 3m and scuffed them up real good after scrubbing them down. I then wiped them down with acetone, applied several coats of wheel paint followed by a couple coats of clearcoat. I think they turned out pretty damn good.

I keep going back and forth between one or the other. I'm really bad with decision making.

 

i would take the chrome ones and powder coat them black

 

I'm still undecided. Any last opinions before I just switch them out?

P.S. I really dont like the idea of painting either one of these black because I really cant imagine it would look all that great, I will eventually just buy some rock crawler black steelies when I decide to buy new tires.

I then wiped them down with acetone, applied several coats of wheel paint followed by a couple coats of clearcoat. The wheel paint was the duplicolor stuff from autozone. So was the clearcoat.

 

Obviously, you have to do what it is you want... Chrome is easier to take care off, but Aluminum is lighter; Aluminum will resist rust better, but Steel ones are stronger...

 

Paint them like these. Maybe a hyper silver or something to go w/your truck.

 

I would run the stockers.....I do, and they are great. They are easily replaced if you damage one. The steel wheels rust and flake.

 

sell both and get what you really want.. tahts what id do.. it would be nice to see the stockers on ur truck
