Another (different) whats it worth?? :)

(from another forum)

its about 50 miles from me, and I'm kinda looking from a Full-time trail rig

this ones a little beat though (body wise)

This was a good running vehicle and dependable until it was rolled during the first snow of 2005. It has been sitting for a year because we were going to find a body and fix it. We've finally decided we have too many projects.
For $600.00 or best offer , you get a good running 22RE engine, a 5 speed transmission and axles (the whole truck) (you could do what we would have and find a body and make a good running vehicle)
I'm kinda hesitant on wanting this big of a project, plans would be to forget the windows, work on a windshield, cut the top, and frame it in, it would be pretty chopped body wise so i don't really care, what do you guys think...

If you're looking for a dedicated trail rig, I say GO FOR IT!

Probably depends on how far you're going. You got the 2.7 or the 3.4?

As far as aesthetics's goes, I think it would look downright awesome...

lol, aesthetics, yeah that would actually not look bad at all,
but just the load on the '99... the 3.4, would prolly throw in a tran cooler, for occasional trips across MI (200 or so miles)

When my dad bought the 03 Taco that I have now, he had it fitted with a tranny cooler, and a electric brake setup for towing his 5th wheel. He took a 24' 5th wheel on several 800+ mile trips and never had a problem, except for long mountain grades, where the 3.4 just didn't have enough juice to go fast. He made it up the mountain with zero problems, it just took a bit longer... Since I have had the truck I have towed a trailer full of block (a few tons) with no probs. Just make sure your brakes are in good order and throw in a tranny cooler, and you'll be fine...

I would say with confidence that as long as you're not hauling a massive amount of weight ALL the time with the 3.4, it'll be fine, as far as long term durability goes. All this discussed, if that's the only thing holding you back from that deal on the 85-88 (?), just go for it... If I had $600, Id get it in a heartbeat...

What's that fluid on the front bumper? If the radiator is fine and the motor runs, $600 is a steal, radiator being the most expensive part at around $200. That was a really really soft roll, no significant a-piller crushing. I say buy it or let me!

I personally would hold out for an '85 just to get the solid front axle, but you could always SAS this one...

Think I'd hold out too if you don't want a big project...

Body damage is more the cosmetic, it's structural too. From the looks of it, the frame's busted too?

$600 for the Toy running gear and totalled truck to part out isn't bad though

Basically do u have room for this to be a yard-car because it seems thats what it will be for a while. If u have space for it Id say do it.

hmm, yeah from the looks of it the frame prolly isn't "busted" it may not like high speeds of 80mph or so, but its never gonna see that anyway. My guess the frame is in good to good enough condition....

space: yeah, 'bout that, in college, move every three months, would have time to work on it in winter and summer while not in class, but at that time I'm in an apartment, so I'd first have to find someone from work that could spare a little room (i dont think it would be too hard)

Take a look at the top of the B pillar in the 2nd pic, it looks as though the entire body (and possibly the frame beneath follows it's contour) is buckled.

Then again I'm probably just seeing things

I see what you mean, I'm assuming that looks that way due to what looks like it landing on the front hood area, pushing down the hood and DS fender, thus pushing the door around, misaligning it with the B-pillar and the rest of the car on back... you could be right, and a good check over would be in order before buying to see if its what I want. heres another pic that was there to show what I mean better

edit: crap, its missing the gas fill door too

I think that is from the rear top buckeld or cracked in the rear, it's only fiberglass. My truck was rolled pretty hard, crushed the cab enough to smash the dash and the frame did get tweeked but not even enough to be an issue. These trucks do have a fully boxed frame. Everything lines up and the front end aligns fine. The A pillars always take the blunt of a roll due to the weight of the engine up front. Looks like this 4runner got laided on its drivers side and easied over on to its top. I second that if the engine and mechanical is sound it's a steal at $600, just for s**ts and giggles see if he'll come down to $500. With a trail rig you'll be putting in tons of work anyway so a SAS isn't so far off. I think this is a pretty good deal, first hand inspection would be best but online it seems so.

After looking more at pic 2, there is nothing wrong with the B-pillar. It LOOKS funny in the pictures because the cab is crushed in around it. On 4runners the cab is raised in the rear, it is about 1" higher in the rear vs a truck. Also the "buckled" look on the bed part is mostly likey due to compairing it to the door, which is all bent to s**t.

yeah, its not really all online i guess, its only 50-60 miles away, and i would drive past it going to visit hometown...

this one won't get that for a while... as parts of the body come off it would get an exo and full roll protection, but no real huge suspension changes for a while until stuff breaks...
