Heard from a buddy that flippin yer torsion bars upside down gave you a good inch or so extra ride height. I have never heard about this being done, nor the pros and cons, so I was just wondering if anyone's done it, how it worked out for em, and all that good stuff. So, yalls thoughts my fellow yota'ers?

Well just an fyi, a returning lc owner and myself wanted to revive the LC group in san antonio but it's open to all toyota owners. There was a good turn out of about 13 owner. I'll put a post up when the next meeting will be and send you guys a pm.

 

Torsion bars are round. So no matter what position you put them in, they will always be the same. How exactly do you flip somthing round upside down anyways????

Torsion bars are uniform on both side, but if you flip sides, won't the bars be twisting the opposite way that they were. That could make for accellerated wear couldn't it?

How can you flip them?? They have a master spline which has to line up in the socket.

Not only that, the a-arm end is larger than the anchor end. Only option is to swap sides and there is no way in hell I'd drive or ride in that thing. If you twist hardened spring metal past zero they will SNAP.

 

Lol I get it, I shouldn't even think about trying it. Yeah I can turn my tbars up another inch or so, but it was a little ruff for someone who has three vertibre fused togther lol.

 

Was probably thinking about those POS Ford "I-Beam" suspensions or whatever they were called - you get lift on them by flipping them over...

 

As mentioned above, the Tbars have a keyed splines. I think they'll only go in one way.

As far as swapping sides, I replaced my bars not too long ago and the installation instructions had all kinds of warnings to make sure they were installed on the proper side. I'm not sure why, but I'm guessing the bars may be pre-stressed to work in a particular direction.
