I'll try and help with a quickee answer. Aisan hubs are manual hubs meaning in order to get 4WD you have to physically get out of the truck and turn them "in" for them to lock and then you will get 4wd. If your hubs are locked but your in 2wd on the lever the front axles are always turning, which is also what happens with ADD (automatic disconnecting diff....and what you probably have). The advantage of having the manual hubs is when you turn them "out" the front tires are freewheeling and nothing is turning up there so there is less wear and tear, less rolling resistance ( better mileage) and the truck will steer easier most likely as well. Hopefully the guys who have already converted can chime in with some of the results. It is also discussed in this thread
