Frame Swap Questions

I got an 86 4x4 pick and the frame is rusting out, as well as parts of the cab and bed.
I came across a 92 4x2 with a good body and frame, just blown engine.
My questions are:
Can I just take this 4x2 frame and weld in the brackets from my 4x4, and good to go? One person told me the 4x2 frame kicks up in the front, I am worried that will make the truck, have a lot of rake, as in the front will sit lower than the back (like a hot rod) Will this happen or will it sit level?

I can use that cab as long as I cut the hole out for the transfer case shifter right?

You are looking at a TON of work. I'd say, just find a frame at a wrecking yard, or find one somewhere else. That 4x2 frame is WAYY different, smaller, and weaker. You would have to change every mount on the frame, including tranas mounts, crossmembers, and the engine from suspension.

DONT use a 4x2 frame.

Go lookin for a same year as the truck you have frame. I'm lookn at actually buying a frame soon myself but I have one lined up that MATCHES my truck.

My current frame is bent from a previous owner accident, f00ker and I'm just dead freakn tired of dealing with it. My IFS is all Fooked up and it's the biggest headache trying to get the truck to sit level and be aligned ontop of a worn out steering box. I have a pile of empty ibuprofen bottles in the garage.

Look on craigslist for people parting out their old trucks, they usually let the frames go FOR CHEAP since that is the last part to get rid of and the market for yota frames is pretty small =)

drew303, i know what you mean. I have a slightly bent frame on the passenger side right at the IFS junk, i understand the frustration. I think mine is infront of the motor mount though or right at it, so i might be able to bend it back and weld some plates on the frame to keep it siff. Anyone every done this before on a yota?

You want to stay IFS? Then find the same model frame.
If you want to go SAS, go with the 2WD frame; it's very similar to the 84-85 SA frames.
