Auto 4runner shifting weird when cold

I have a 92 v6 auto 4Runner , I just bought it recently , and it is the first auto Toyota I have ever owned , so I am a little unsure of what is normal for these tranny's .

First off , the tranny fluid was clean and full when I bought the truck and still is .
The transmission seems to shift correctly and smoothly when its warmed up , but when its cold (first 5 min driving on a cold morning) it revs way higher than normal before it shifts and it wont shift into o/d for the first few minutes . It also seems to make a slight knocking type sound from the tranny when the rpm's are up , but also only when its cold .
Other than that , it shifts smooth , drives good , and seems to be an all around solid and clean truck .

I am just worried that this could be a sign of trouble to come , if its normal , I wont worry about it , just want to be sure .
I will be doing a fair amount of towing , so I hope its not a weak tranny . It only has 200'000 kms (120'000 miles) wich is pretty low for a Toy .

Thanks for any input .....

Standard on toyota auto trannies...
It helps warm up the fluid so the tranny runs and shifts smoohter and stays protected longer...
My 97' dos it and so does stedads 02'

The knocking sound I can't explain though...

The tranny computer (ECU) is programed to not go into OD until the coolant temp is warmed up.

ok wait i think i have the same problem but when i start mine, my rev is at like 1200-1500 rpm. If i am impatient i will just drive but when it gets to the 3rd gear it will rev through and and not shift to the next one leaving me with doing 50 mph at like 3000rpm. so basically is there anyway to get this fixed because it leaves me with losing gas. oh and i have an automatic transmission, '92 4runner, and it is a recently rebuilt tranny.

If you read a few posts up, you'll notice that you have nothing to fix. 95Runner SR5 was correct when he said that the A340H transmission will not shift to O/D and the torque converter will not lock up until the engine coolant temp reaches 70 deg C (158 deg F). As far as reving at 1200-1500 rpm at idle when it's really cold out, that's normal also. If you wait until the engine is warmed up, it should go down to approx 700-800 rpm. If it doesn't, then your idle set screw may need to be adjusted.

High idle at startup is normal on every vehicle on the market. Not just toyotas. Its so that the motor warms up quicker. It would take forever to warm up when its cold out if it was only idling at the standard 800ish rpms.
