What is this sensor?!

What is the sensor that is in the thermostat housing on a 22re? Mine is broken and I can't figure out which it is.

cold start and temp sensor for ecu are in the front of the lower part of the intake. one is grey and one is green. i think the temp sensor is green. the temp sender for the guage is on the top of the lower intake about halfway back.

I don't see a picture either.

So I don't hijack the thread I'm corresponding to a later post than this one, I am also using firefox. Sorry I can't help with the sensor problem.

Okay, well it definetly isn't the O2 sensor. That is on the exhaust pipe on the 22re, and the 3vze, and the 5vze.

My guess, since it is on the thermostat housing, is that it is the electric junk that tells you how your engine temp is doing in the cab...ie the wiring that feeds your temp guage.

I didn't post a pic so you computers are fine. It is the sensor that is on top of the thermostat housing. The wire snapped off and I'm not getting any codes, and my gauge still works.

off the top of my head i think its a temp sensor of some sort. especially since its near the t-stat.

If you can post a pic it would be extremely helpful in identifying the part.

also, which truck is this on the 22re?

Yes it's on the 22re. The pic isn't that great but you can see it sticking right out of the top of the thermostat housing. I know it's a temp sensor but with no cel and the temp gauge is still working, I'm stumped.

Hmm weird... I don't think my 22RE has that.

not sure, there are a number of temp sensors on the 22re however that do different things.

Single sensor is the A/C thermo switch, cuts the A/C off if the engine coolant overheats.

Also a location for the A/T coolant temp sender and turbo coolant temp sender as well. Perhaps all engines have at least something in there, but not sure.

I guess that's why I haven't had a light or non working gauge. I tried to trace down the wire but it goes into the harness and I didn't want to get into it at 9:00 last night.

It goes to the TSW pin on the ECU. My manual shows it as a water thermo sw (4wd). Not sure what it does or how it would relate to 4wd.

Well I guess I will just go get another plug from the wrecking yard. This wire broke off right at the sensor so there's nowhere to reconnect it. May as well hook it back up.

This plug is not very clear in the FSM either. My 86 has the same plug, also a friend of mine has the same plug on his 86, both of ours are automatics. In the FSM, that plug is never shown. Here's a pic of sensors and vacuum lines.

In the air condition section, it mentions a towing package thermo sensor, shown here, but not the same as what you and I have.

Also in the tranny section it mentions thermo switch and refers to the one on the intake side. (22r is on thermostat)

And under the cooling section, it doesn't mention or show the sensor. In the body electric section is where the sensor is shown on the intake side.

My 88 model doesn't have the sensor on the thermostat. A friend of mine told me that the 85 and early 86 models had the thermo sensor for the dash on the thermostat and they moved it to the intake side. But the 86 FSM doesn't show or mention it.
