JL Audio Stealthbox for 3rd Gen 4Runners
Hey guys,
Does anyone know of any deeply discounted places to purchase the JL Audio custom Stealthbox subwoofer enclosure for the 98 4Runner (3rd gen)? It's the custom built box that contains the one 10" subwoofer.
Based on what I've heard, it's superior to what a custom shop can make (factoring in price, size, and acoustical match with the sub). I've also heard the Qlogic custom 4Runner box is not a good option since it rattles, vibrates, and distorts.
Any thoughts on where I can find the Stealthbox? I've checked ebay for many months, but to no avail. Thank you!

I don't have an answer for you, but just wondering why you're looking into this? Do you haul lots of stuff? I have my amp underneath my seat and my 10" sub in the back. When I need to carry something, it takes 10 seconds to take the box out. But if you're hauling stuff frequently, I could see how that would be tedious. But if not, I'd recommend going with a traditional set up. The Stealthbox might sound good, but nothing beats the sound of a well-matched sub and box. Just my 2 cents.

Fair question. I used to have a box with 2 10's (which yes, was overkill). I'm up in the Pacific NW and constantly going on ski trips; road trips; and camping trips. I got tired of constantly fighting with the box and it getting in the way.
I'm hoping to find a decently priced stealthbox so I never have to move it or worry about it, but if not, I'll go with the 1 10" in a smaller sealed box. If the stealthbox is only $100-150 more (used or close-out), I'd rather go with that...
Thanks!

i'm not sure if the JL will rattle less than the Qlogic. i have the Q and mostly of what rattles are the clips and stuff behind the entire trim piece that the box mounts to. I would say skip both and get a small regular sealed box. I put a ton of dynamat and foam all behind the trim and now i have no rattles. The reason for the foam was that the trim piece was bouncing off the window. All the dynamat in world won't stop that.

I know a 10W3 should have fit and I think those run 300W rms

I've always had a big stereo system and thats what I do for a living. I do installs at a local shop so I'm always buying new stuff. A 10w3v2 would have fit but I wanted alot more. I ended up replacing the stealth box with a custom ported box with 2 12" JLw7. If your looking for a little bottom end bass the stealth box will do fine but they are not cheap. I just wanted to get rid of the box.

I'll second the qlogic box not being that bad. Yes things rattle but it's not the box, everything around it rattled, untill I applied enough raamatt. The JL box is overpriced, and doesn't use a very good driver, the 10W0.
I used the qlogic box w/polyfill, a JL 10W3, and a JL 250/1. It has enough bottom end for me, before that I had a box I made with 2 Kicker 12's in it, but like you bought my 4Runner so I can haul stuff and wanted the space back. The amp can fit in the jack space under the rear seat, and has never overheated.
If I were to choose over again, I would fiberglass my own, and put the amp into the the enclosure, barring that the qlogic solution is decent.
