Now that my HG blew on my 88 SR5 4runner and my 3.0 engine is toast, I have a few options to consider. I can go with a 3.4 but given that I have an auto I have to have the trans rebuilt for that. So no go on that since cost is somewhat of an issue. I would really like to put in a 1UZFE but that procedure is still fairly new and I really dont feel like messing with that. So I have two options left. I could get a rebuilt engine or remanufactured. I would be purchasing a rebuilt. Im not sure I would trust myself or someone else to rebuild mine. Unless anyone know anyone around the chicago area that knows the 3.0. Should I just spend the extra money and get a remanufactured engine or save and get a rebuilt?

 

There are some guys around that have done a 3.4 swap and used the 3.0 auto tranny.

So your HG was blown and that's what caused oil all over the engine bay? Never heard of that before.

 

pressure was building up in the valve covers. You could see oil spraying out of the pcv at idle. so at around 2500 to 3500 rpm you can imagine oil spraying out of the cap and pcv pretty good. and the pcv was also coated in burt antifreeze. does make sense since only the driver side was covered in oil.

 

Well there is one more option. Buy a used 3.0 engine that is still in good running condition and swap that in. I got one with 116,000 miles but I'm in Oklahoma.

For the same $ you'll pour into a 3.slow you could do a swap.

 

The engine needs to be rebuilt. It has a pretty good knock. I am skeptic of putting in a used 3.0 This engine only had 150,000 on it. Monster, any idea of where I could mind a 3.4 and tranny and ECU or someone to rebuild my 340h to handle the 3.4 for $2300???? I can get a 3.0 REBUILT (not remanufactured), 3 year 100,000 LIMITED warranty obviously, shipped to my house and resend the old one back for $2300. A buddy offered to help my pull the 3.0 since he had done it once already. If im not mistaken the only drawback to the 3VZE is the HG and its a dog. Other than that the rest of it is pretty strong. A rebuilt 3.0 should run just as good as a remanufactured....no?

That 3RZ swap BigMike and Marlin did on MarlinCrawler forum looks Sweet...and Marlin just came out with a bellhousing to bolt a R150F up behind it...

The 3.0 3VZE is gone, but i still have the R150 4x4 tranny/ t-case...you can have it for $300...i'm in central Illinois though...

Anyhow, I rebuilt my 3vz-e to either match or exceed factory spec, but I have a stumble.
Its the engine wiring harness.
$602 from the Stealership.

Looking at my receipts for the 3.0 rebuild.

I could have purchased a low mileage 5VZE, the COMPLETE ORS conversion kit, a set of downey headers, heat insulation, and exhaust setup.
