how to separate rotor/hub on 96 4wd?

I can't figure this out..shop manual simply says remove disc(rotor) from hub.
Can't figure it out, neither can any of the parts store guys. My truck is apart and waiting for the new rotors! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unhappy

The PB has been soaking in for a couple of hours and I'll try again in the morning....still don't see how the hub is going to pass through the center of the rotor, though.

take the caliper off, ziptie it to the A-Arm.

grab a rubber mallet and go to town. Hit closest to the edges as possible.

Both rotor/hubs are removed and have the six bolts holding the rotors to the hubs removed. This picture is one of them soaking in PB.

you should be able to turn it over and put the lugs back on and hammer them and it will loosen up.. that how i've done it before.

Are you sure it's a 96, that hub/rotor is from a 2nd gen Runner, ie 89-95. If I remember correctly the rotor comes off from the back, so the hub doesn't have to go through the rotor. Anyway they are usually stuck together pretty good, try finding the crack between them and hammering a sharp chisel in, go round and do that in a few places. You can also try putting the rotor on blocks and hammer out the hub. Use a piece of wood so you don't damage the hub.

Exactly, a 96 would have a huge sealed bearing that requires a 20 ton press to get out. That is 95 or older.

As far as I know these are the original hubs, but I bought my truck used. It is definitely a 1996, though. The hub has to pass through the rotor for it to come apart. The holes visible in the pic are where the rotor/hub attaching bolts go. The rotor is not threaded, the part of the hub behind the rotor is. Interestingly enough, though, the FSM does not show these bolts or even the fact that the rotor and hub come apart!

center the rotor on 2 peices of wood or non course surface, and use a 2x4 to wack the center of hub, works every time, at least for me it does.

The FSM picture you posted is for an 86-95 truck. Not an 96.

Go here and look at some 96 FSM pages.

THIS is a 96-04 Tacoma.

Well, my shop manual is straight from Toyota for a 1996 T100. I talked to the parts guy and he said there are 3 different rotors depending on my VIN. I am going to talk to the service department now to see what they say.

Well you never said it was a T-100, yes those had the old stuff for many more years.

Your book is right, for a T-100 but not for a Tacoma.

Now I see he did post in the T-100 section, :pat: I tend to overlook those when thinking about Toyota trucks.

I did not even know there was a T100 section. I found this under "new posts".

Now I know there is a T100 section.
