60mm TB on a budget...

A 60mm TB from a 7m series will bolt up to the upper plentum of a 22RE.
The plentum (upper) will have to be ported somewhat, perhaps 5mm.

For reference the stock TB is 55mm
LC will provide a 58mm TB for around $290.

I don't have a write up on this, the TB itself will bolt up - all the same hose functions are there, but will have to be re-routed.

The throttle cable can be made to work with minor adaptation from the stock 55mm TB. I had to weld a tab for the "close" set screw. I haven't setup the WOT stop yet.

These are very available and cheap. The TPS is the same on my 88, but it looks like a bolt-in-place deal even the TPS had to be replaced.

This is how it started life:

Now adatped to a late model 22RE upper manifold.

Photos - I had it powdercoated black, so the contrast isn't excellent:

Mock up of intake on this motor:

Hey, when you start with rice you're going to end with rice... Everything is powder coat - no paint (except for the block). No neon colors, either. If you know a better way to get enough power out of a 22RE, please let me know. I think I've tried all the alternatives - including supercharging.

Just thought you guys might like to know there are alternatives to paying $280 for a +3mm TB via LC or DOA...

Note this may or may not make *any* HP difference on your 22RE. Depends on how you're setup and what the limitations of the airbox, intake, and head are.

Do you happen to know if there is a TB size difference from the 5M to the 7M? 5M's seem to be pretty plentiful in the scrap yards around here(and cheap).

Sorry I'm dogging the whole MS thing, but my truck has taken a back seat for a while, and it' just happens to be -26 outside right now...and I don't have an enclosed garage to work in(can you say "SUCKS")

Wow..-26? It's 70 in Texas... This is a good time a year to work on your junk.

On the TB:
Might ask on the celica forum - www.celica-gts.com.
I think they're both 60mm and believe they both can swap. The 5m swap is fairly well documented on the celica forum - just watch the TPS.. it may not be the same.

yeah, it's -28*C right now(so -19*F)...I hate all of you down south that can work throught the winter, but hey, skiing rocks!

Excellent, seems the 5M and 7M TB's are identical size. Now for boring out the plenum, did you actually have it machined, or just use a die grinder and some emry cloth?
