22RE error codes 24 and 31 after flushing coolant system

Hi guys,
I got my first engine light. It hapened after I flushed the cooling system, the truck was running good before, it dies 5/10 seconds after start the engine now, when I push on the gas or when I put in gear.

I flushed the cooling system today, I removed the t-stat and I used a garden hose until clean water went out from all the holes: radiator petcock, radiator upper and lower hoses, engine coolant drain hole, and front and rear heater cores (I used low pressure for the last ones). After that I connected all the hoses and put back/closed the drain plugs. I dried the areas in the engine bay which got wet, as much as I could with the compressor air gun. After that I filled the radiator with distilled water and a little bottle of JLM Radiator Clean and Flush Pro, I started the engine and the probelms started. The engine light turned on and after 5 minutes the engines died. It dies 5 seconds after start the engine now, when I push on the gas or when I put in gear. I didn't put back the new T-stat yet, I planned to do it after the last flush.

So I read the codes, they're number 24 and 31.
24: Intake air temperature signal
31: Air flow meter signal.
So I have to start checking those systems (as the FSM calls them).

But the question is, before starting to dig deeper, why do you think these problems happened? Why do a flushing of the cooling system can cause that? Is it possible that something got wet when I was flushing with the garden hose? I'd like to know why this happened.

Thank you and have a good day.

Did you happen to unplug the air flow meter during the coolant flush?

The intake air temperature sensor is part of the air flow meter assembly.

Check for water in the connector as well as corrosion.

How much water made its way over to the air flow meter? It is possible that water got into the AFM internal circuitry and shorted out some connections.

Yes, Probably just water where it doesn't belong, and connections.

Always

Chock wheels, safety stand, disconnect battery....

I will wager you don't have the retainer spring and the vafm plug is loose

I changed the air filter one week ago, I unplugged the afm, but I put it back correctly, with the safetly clip, but the problem was in the plug.

In this case was the connection.

The problem was that.

Thank you guys!
Bad connection in the afm plug.
I checked the afm this morning, the clip was slightly open and the plug not fully connected. I push it back, reconnect the battery and I started the truck. Engine light off and it's running good now.

Thank you old, 87yota, RAD4Runner and Co_94_PU.
Have a good day!
