Supercharger for V8 Tundra...

I am on a quest ---

I need first hand information from those that have
installed a TRD V8 Super Charger on the Toy/Lex 4.7L V8.

What to avoid?, what to add in extra? -- Issues that must be addressed??? Best prices on SC and dealer installation?

Can anyone provide a copy of the installation instructions/
Maybe the video.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Parts

That is a hell of a deal I wouldn't pass it up either. With the new SC just out I can't get it for very cheap right now but will be able to later. Best of luck, after you do that throw a NOS system through the SC. A buddy of mine just did that and WOW. Have fun and be safe.

SC Info

Not sure if you've read the information about the S/C for the V6's, but there is a lot of details about necessary fuel system upgrades.

I don't know what comes with the V8 system, but if you go to: www.gadgetonline.com, you will learn a lot about the V6 stuff which might apply to you.

Good luck.

O.K., this is what I have found so far...

Best price: $4K Installed @ my local dealer.
Installation instructions: Called TRD - They sent me all 33 pages.
Driveability issues: None of the problems with the V6 SC carry over to the V8

I think I will bolt on some power late Dec. '03...

What problems? According to TRD, the V6 never had any problems.

The only thing I would check with yours is that you are providing enough fuel to your motor. In the V6 (again, TRD said there was NO problems) the fuel system and ECU could not provide enough fuel for the extra HP. This would cause the motor to run Lean... which is bad.

Now, I'm not trying to say "Don't do it". I've had the S/C on my V6 for 80,000 miles and have not had any problems... that I know of. I'm just passing on some of the knowledge and warnings I've learned over the past couple of years. Some people have blown motors.

The easiest way to check that is to have whoever is installing your S/C, check the EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp). They could check it before and after the install. If it runs significantly hotter, you've got a lean running condition.

Good luck with it. I've loved mine.... and on a V8, it's got to be even better.

There is a thread on Tundra Solutions that has a lot of pages to it and covers like a year in time. It has a lot of info on the teething problems of the 4.7 supercharger and some of the fixes that folks came up with.

If you are thinking of getting a TRD Supercharger for your 4.7 I would certainly read through the whole thing from start to finish. One thing is that the posts are in reverse order then the way it is here. You will have to go to the very last page to read the first post and then start reading from there. It will take you a long time just to get to the first post, and then read each and every post from there. It is certainly worth the read.

No, that is not the one I was taking about. It is like 50-100 pages long and covers at least a year in time. Keep hunting for it. I hope it is still there.

4.7L s/c, TRD cannot always be relied on. We've found a couple of important steps missing completely. It is a big job. Not to mention we've been having a few problems with some of them grenading for no appartant reason.

I'm back

I have decided to sell the Tundra. I just like the T100 more than the Tundra. It has been nice to have two trucks so... I think I will purchase a '97/'98 T100 later and bolt on the V6 SC.
Thanks for all of the replies.

It's been 6 months since I visited this forum and it's good to be back.

Kinderhook toyota has them for $3895 shipped. I paid $600 at a stealer for the install. You can probably shop that around for a better install price.

Thanks Biff, but my Tundra is for sale - so no SC for me.
