OPTIMA -- Red Top or Yellow Top
#41
By asking "hows it wired" I meant did you just run the hot & ground straight to the main battery? I am guessing the alternator charges the main and in turn the secondary, is that correct? Lemme know, I just wanna do it right.

Paralell. There are kits for like $25 that you can buy to wire them up. I ran duals for 3 years with stock alternator. Of course I had the red top as my main and yellow top as my spare...so the alternator had to crank, but not nearly as hard as non charging batteries. I never had a problem with them and my stock alternator. And with all the electronics that I have/had in there...it called for some serious power. My guess is the deepcell in back but a big relief on the alternator being deep cell and all...

More info about alternators and how they work:

Stock alternator is plenty of power in my opinion. Especially with the yellow. I run my winch with truck off and have plenty of power to spare. I did replace my alternator recently (died when engine blew)...just replaced it with lifetime waranty from autozone. Its same as stock. I get 2 free replacements out of the deal. Figure if for some reason it ever goes bad...I still have to kill 2 more. Hopefully, high amp alternators will be down in $$$ after that happens

Also make sure you use good wire. I use zero guage for both my batteries. Alows for best efficency...
