How to know what size pistons?

I just wanted to know how to find out what size pistons I have in my truck. I'm just replacing the rings, so I would like to know if the pistons are standard size or what. Thanks in avance!

Uh.....unless youve done something to the engine with bigger pistons, you should just be able to go to a parts store and get the rings for your particular engine...shouldnt you? If you want, take some calipers and check the exact Diameter of your pistons in the ring grooves....maybe that could help.

How is anyone supposed to know that when you don't tell us what engine, year and vehicle.

Sorry, it's a 1985 22RE (there really should be a spot near your location where you can put your basic vehicle info)

Does anyone know? I want to get them today or tomorrow.. I'll probably be getting the standard size, but I'd rather confirm my decision before buying!

Thanks

<sigh> google my friend...google.... <sigh>

look what "22re bore" "im feeling lucky" returns.

http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/...toy_motor.html

(if your too lazy to click the linky)

81-82.3, 22R/22REC: (SBTO80)
Bore: 92mm
Stroke: 89mm
Stock Piston: (PATO80)
Notes: Best Choice for Pistons (dome top). You can just deck
the block by 2mm and make this identical to the post-85
block.

82.4-84.7, 22R/22REC: (SBTO80L)
Bore: 92mm
Stroke: 89mm
Stock Piston: (PATO80)
Notes: Best Choice for Pistons (dome top). You can just deck
the block by 2mm and make this block identical to the
post-85 block.

84.8-95, 22R/RE/REC: (SBTO80LC)
Bore: 92mm
Stroke: 89mm
Stock Piston: (PATO80L)
Notes: Best Choice for Block. Piston is Flat-top. Block is
2mm shorter than previous 22R. This gives you a little
bit more compression, but you need an adjustable cam
gear to get cam timing right.

85-88, 22RTEC: (NA)
Bore: 92mm
Stroke: 89mm
Stock Piston: (PATO80T)
Notes: Piston is dished. (?)

bust out that metric ruler. if they are 92mm (3.6220") they are stock.

Thanks for that info. I did search google, but I guess I was typing in the wrong search words... and I've never really used the 'i'm feeling lucky' button. Thanks for the info Snap-on even if you were being a borderline smart-ass!

Just to confuse you some more the FSM shows 3 different piston sizes, marked 1, 2 and 3. The diameters are
Size 1.... 3.6211-3.6214" (91.975-91.985 mm)
Size 2.... 3.6214-3.6218" (91.985-91.995 mm)
Size 3.... 3.6218-3.6222" (91.995-92.005 mm)

The bores should also be marked 1, 2 or 3, to match the pistons.

just remember, even toyota makes oversized pistons.

99.9999% of the time, the oversize will be stamped on the top of the piston.

Ok, nothing stamped on top of them... and doing some research, Toyota owns like 23 percent of Aisin.. so I'm guessing it's an acutal Toyota part... I believe I have enough info to buy standard size rings! thanks guys
