Seems like the better question would be. Should I run an oil with higher zinc content?

or what is best oil filter for the money?

To you question loads of thoughts and ideas on the subject. Do some research as mentioned.

What part of California do you live in?

California is a large state. The temperatures can get quite cold in the Northern part of the state, while the Southern part stays warm year around.

I personally run conventional 10W-30 oil in my truck, with an OEM Toyota oil filter.

Once you start searching, you will find many different opinions on the subject.

Here is what my Owner's Manual says:

The back cover of the manual says, "Use SAE 10W-30 if normal temperatures are above 0° F (-18°C). For other viscosity recommendations, see page 108 [shown above]"
