Right!? It was an awesome day. The tan second gen did everything I did but had to winch in a few spots. No gears, open front and rear, but not afraid to smash the throttle. He said it was a free truck so that's how he drives it. I kinda forgot what a yota can do there for a minute because I hadn't been crawling in so long.

 

I haven't made my 15 posts quota yet, so I can't start a new thread...
perhaps this is not the appropriate place to put this question but I'm getting pretty desperate as I've spent hours & hours trying to find an answer....

1985 22R-EC Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT) indicator wiring diagram question:
What are the pins and polarity that drive the two ECT dash indicators?

The 1st attached picture is of a Combination Meter (instrument cluster) from a 1985 Toyota pickup, which is similar to mine, that I pulled off google.
My truck's info: VIN: JT4RN66P7F5093420 MODEL: RN65L-PDCEA 557FQ41G282A340H
(the colored lines in the pic represent my "best guess" but I cannot find any documentation whatsoever to back me up).
Does anyone have a complete wiring diagram for this ECT indicator circuit?

My goal is to replace the instrument cluster in my 1985 truck with one from a 1986 donor truck in order to get a tachometer.

It appears that all (but maybe just some???) of the pin designation are the same
.. however ...
in ALL the wiring diagrams that I can find, there are omissions (eg: no mention of the ECT indicators)

Please keep in mind that I'm a noob when it comes to these trucks
{ but I was an Electronics Technician in the Navy for 6 years... ET2 (SW), specializing in Comm & Crypto }
Any info I've provided is simply my best guess based on hours/days of research but SHOULD NOT be considered the gospel..... not yet anyway....

Is there a reason for bumping up a year? Did any of the 1984 Toyota's have a tack in the dash? Wouldn't the 1984 dash with a tack wire right in like it was always there?

 

I think the problem he's having is that his truck is an auto.

 

Got out and used the truck again yesterday. Probably not going to be a camping rig anymore. I'm over it. Just going to keep on using the truck the way it should be used.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Your truck looks tough, dude! I haven't been on here in a while. I'm seriously going to have to read back through this thread.

 

Thank you! Just goes to show what you can do with some pretty simple parts. My truck is about as basic as it gets and works well. Been hammering on it for almost 5 years with out hardly turning a single wrench on anything until a month or two ago when i rebuilt the front axle.

My most important piece of advice is to never replace, always upgrade or strengthen the component.

 

Been wheeling a little more lately and have recently done a few things to progress the truck. Big plans coming for this summer. I'll see if I can get photobucket to cooperate so I can post pictures.

 

Did a creeper gusset kit up front. Was cheap and easy to do and I needed motivation to keep working on the truck so I did them.
