Exclamation Fake/Upside Down 3VZE Head Gaskets!

CAUTION: Please CAREFULLY read this ENTIRE thread from beginning to end. Otherwise, not only will the thread's title potentially mislead you, you will gain no understanding of very important details regarding the various designs/types/brands of 3VZ-E head gaskets currently being sold by many OE and aftermarket manufacturers. Though it may be a somewhat confusing read(even to me), pretty much all the way through(due to the need for numerous corrections for mistakes of thought made along the way), I promise you that you'll be SUPREMELY informed on the matter as a result of reading ALL of it. The information obtained may also help you to make your own decision as to which, if any, design/type/brand of 3VZ-E head gaskets you would like to have installed on your 3VZ-E. Since there are several designs/types/brands to choose from, and different reasons to choose/not choose each.

BE FORWARNED!!!

I recently purchased, off ebay(of course), these incorrectly designed look-alike/upside down/counterfeit head gaskets for an 88-95 3VZE. They were in a head gasket kit/set like these:

If you compare them to the correct style, you'll easily notice what I'm refering to. Here's some I purchased a few days ago that are identical, in construction, to all the 3rd generation 3VZE head gasket designs currently distributed by true OE quality parts suppliers("engineered" by ENGNBLDR, thanks, and your welcome, Ted). They are made by D & J ROCK PRODUCTS, INC. as ROCK GASKET® part numbers HG95L & HG95R, and are equivalent to OEM part numbers 11115-65020 & 11116-65020, Fel-Pro part numbers 9815PT & 9728PT, and Beck/Arnley part numbers 035-1877 & 035-1876.

NO!!! YOU CAN NOT JUST FLIP THEM OVER!!!!

For one thing, they won't fit if you flip them over(tried). For another, the opposite side of the gasket is not the same. And the graphite/white silicone side must face the block.

The other side faces the head. It's the Slipperplate™ side. See below.

I don't even want to know whether or not they would work. I'm just happy I noticed the difference before I installed them!

So nows ya know......

Thanks for the "heads-up", pardon the pun.

I, personally, have no intention on using them. They're being kept strictly for demonstration now. Sorry you had to learn that's all they're good for the hard way.

Better luck next time!

you can see that the rock gaskets are just rebranded Fel-pro.

But I agree, the hg's are one thing I would never use aftermarket, not something I want to re-do...

Are you guys talking about the spot on the Rock package that says "Fel Pro" followed by a part number?

I dont think rock gaskets are made by felpro , that felpro # might just be a cross refrence number or replaces number. Rock just leaves the "replaces" word out for some weird reason.

You guys could be right. I have no real way to say for sure who makes them. I haven't looked that far into it yet. It was only an assumption and I should have stated that. Sorry.I'll edit that into my previous post, if no one minds...

I have come upon a thread saying "Rockproducts"(same company that distributes ROCK GASKET)was one of the first companies to bring this latest style to the market. Pre-Toyota or Fel-Pro even. I'll see if I can dig that up.

Are these fake/upsidedown HGs?

I bought an ITM kit from napa the other day, just the top end. I would of gone Felpro but they wanted $260.

I was looking that this thread, https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...askets-191393/ , and it got me kinda spooked.

Heres pics of what i have. Are they backwards/upside down?

Yes, they indeed are.

I recommend trashing those and going with the ones I used instead. http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/page28.html
They're very high quality and you CAN'T beat $22 each!

The Fel-Pro Gasket set (as in HG plus intake, exhaust, etc.) was about $100 for my 82.

I used the same gaskets from Ebay also and have now got steam out the tailpipe, had to add water everyday. I had the heads pressure checked and they are not cracked and are flat. This time I bought a set of Fel-Pro gaskets but they are made the same as the Ebay ones. The graphite faces the head and the slipperplate faces the block. When I asked at the machine shop I was told a HG could go either way. Since they will only fit one way on this toyo 3.0 I can't believe that Fel-Pro also makes a bad HG.
