Are Windows and Mac OS's obsolete?

An interesting blog about why most of our current and future needs may be met by a simple computer, browser and internet connection.

Interesting article. He really likes Google I like google too, but I don't want to give them access to my whole life. That also requires you to always have an internet connection...yes, internet is everywhere and it's easy to stay connected, but you normally have to pay a pretty penny to get internet everywhere, like on your PDA/SmartPhone. He also leaves out things like games, video editing (which I do alot of, I love Mac ), and other things. Granted he's right in some aspects, for most people's uses, a browser is sufficient, but I still like to have hard copies of my email and everything else on my own hard drive, not on the web for everybody to see.

Agreed. Some time ago I posted asking for an app that would 'automatically' encrypt Gmail. Still haven't found one...

Very true. I can't find the link to the article, but I read a report on Intel (I think, or some other company) that successfully tested a "redesign" of a current widely used wifi router on the market. Without doing any hardware modifications of any type, just tweaked software, they were able to get a wifi connection to that router over 1.5 miles away (I think, I can't remember the exact distance ). They said with improvements they expected to be able to reach 60 miles or so. Granted, with the amount of traffic on one router that spanned 60 miles would be overwhelming, it's...improvement?

Portland, Oregon. Where i live already has free city wide wifi, but it seem to be the speed of 256k dsl so it's still pretty slow as far as most high speed internet goes.

I think the x86 PC based systems are tired. The effort to keep the old technology alive is awesome. From Linux to home brew hardware hacks keep the old technology alive and functional. It's been 23 years of x86 and DOS.
