a buddy of mine has a copy of windows 7 that hes installing on my machine today once i get my new hard drive (1TB for 65 bucks, smokin deal or what?!) and power supply... he says it runs fine on his old pentium4 h/t with 1.5GB of ram... might as well try it, huh?
...i downloaded the windows 7 upgrade advisor, and it says my system is ready, except for the sound card... the sb live isnt compatible with 7. (according to the advisor). should i upgrade card?

would the XP drivers work in 7? (nonwindows drivers)?
along with the geforce drivers? if not, does 7 have a compatibility mode for XP drivers?

I would assume that you would be good with the Geforce drivers. They are usually up to date.

ok, got my power supply in and hard drive in, but the new one is unplugged for the minute. windows 7 will not install. keeps stopping at a certain point saying the file is either missing or corrupted. so im just gonna say to hell with it and put xp 64bit on here. ...unless anyone here reccomends vista, i can get that too.

If you have at least 2GB RAM you'll be alright with Vista. I don't mind it so much now but next reload I think will be 7. I try and reload every 18 months or so.

I have a buddy that plays and I think he's running Vista...The thing with Vista is that it's a memory hog.
Were you trying to load 7 on the new HD? Was that giving you the error? If not give that a shot, install 7 on the new HD.

this is way better than that 1000w psu
this has 60A on the 12v rail and it basically all comes down to amps and not watts
i built my first gaming pc 2 years ago with a 400w psu from corsair that had 32amps on the 12v rail
it ran my 8800gt no problem

the problem is simply that linksys doesnt offer driver support for 64-bit operating systems, let alone windows 7. i gotta find a 3rd party driver for it.
