Hey again... actually I was curious about the build number of SP2. It should be listed on the System applete in Control Panel.

from wha I see it doesn't update the version number since it hassent been installed as sp2
under add/remove programs I get
a list of windows hotfix Q81#### this is sp1
then another 20 or so windows hotfix (sp2) Q81#### which are the files for service pack 2
there are about 20 of these. the acual sp2 has these listing in one consolidated package but will show up on your add/remove programs list as a list of these files

If you don't have a service pack then use SP1A to solve your USB 2.0 driver problem.

Here's Micro$oft's page for changing the product id (serial number)
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q328874

Please post here if you don't have a product id number avialable.

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up getting a fresh copy of XP with SP1 installed and everything looks good now!
