SBC/Yahoo DSL

Anyone have this set up?
How do you like it?

I need to get the internet at home set up and the price ($14.95/mo for the first year) is the only motivation for looking into this.

Any comments?

i've got it. i've had it a while and been happy with it. the good thing is when new promotions come up, you can call and get them to adjust the price. that's what i did. i was paying like close to 30 and when the 14 dollar deal came out i called and had them give me that(even though it's meant for new customers only). They said to do the same after a year when the 14 dollar promo ends...to call back and get a price adjustment for whatever new promotion that comes out.

i was looking into it, unfortunately its not offered at my house.

I realize that its not the fastest DSL 1.5m I think. But for 14 bucks a month I can easily live with 1.5m. The only broadband provider at my house in SC only offers 1.5m and it was "good enough" but the price is like 40 bucks a month!! So to get the same thing for 14 is a steal to me.

I say go for it

Does anyone have this with the bare minimum phone service? If so, what do you pay a month? With aother providers, after taxes I know the final bill can be pretty pricey.

In my area the most basic of basic phone service was like $3/mo with SBC.
But there's like nothing included and you'd have to pay for the time over or something.

I have the SBC pro speed, for $23.99, had it for three years now with no problems. Pretty decent speeds for what you pay for.

That's definitely good news.
San Diego Roadrunner has been sort of hit and miss and definitely not worth the huge fee. I'm trying to avoid cable this time around...

I have it..it's super reliable and cheap. SBC customer service is crap, as they're not open on Sundays. I really recommend upgrading to the Pro Package, you'll appreciate the additional speed.

I'm moving next month and DSL isn't available..but Comcast has a 6 month Promo for 4mbps at $29.99!

The SBC/Yahoo operator was telling me that I can upgrade/downgrade as needed as long as I maintain the initial 1 year committment.

Sounds good to me

Cable is pricey and as I had mentioned before my service in San Diego had been pretty bad as well.

What's your experience been Lamm?

The service was so poor:

The modem would fail to connect 1 out of 5 times, it would drop the connection 1 out of ten times and it would "stall" often. 1 Hour online was actuall more like 40 minutes, the rest was just waiting for the connection to reoccur.

Initial log ons often took several re-boots of the PC and resets of the modem.

SBC was contacted by phone, letter and email about 20 times and never could explain or fix the problem.

I know my dad did everything he could to help the computer cope with it ( he writes software for goodyear ) but it was such a crappy program sequence, sometimes it would even freeze the computer when you loaded it.

cable modem is about tem billion percent better IMO.
